Best Way To Clean Exhaust Ports
Before you get started you will need some parts supplies and two custom made tools.
Best way to clean exhaust ports. Removing that and putting simple green in port might do something. Without gasoline washing them clean that oil can bake onto the valve and accumulate into carbon buildup. The best way to decarbon a cylinder is to remove the cylinder and use Mercury marine powertune or low temp oven cleaner.
Use carburetor cleaner and a small-bristled brush like a wire brush toothbrush or pipe cleaner to clean off the carbon from the metal exhaust gas return tube and the gas entry port on the valve usually the smaller hole with a spring-loaded pin or pintle. Naturally oil isnt partial to just the intake valves. More importantly though even though theyre exhaust ports is to make sure that no bits of gasket etc end up in there.
Start by spraying the cleaner into the port. Park the vehicle in an airy space to avoid the suffocation caused by the exhaust fumes. I apply a thin bead to both sides of a new exhaust gasket or depending on the engine application apply a bead around all exhaust ports without the use of a mechanical gasket.
Its on valve overlap. Your turbo may have a port in turbo very near the turbine speed sensor. Some passageways may not appear to be passageways at all due to being completely blocked.
Scribe a line around the ports using the gasket as a template. This will be where you start the EGR passage cleaning procedure. I believe the plug is a 316 inch pipe plug.
You would need to use a socket wrench to remove these bolts as they are tightly screwed and difficult to remove even after applying a solvent. Once the powertune has sat on the carbon for awhile it softens it up to a putty like consistancy. The basic procedure is to put solvent and compressed air into the SAI system on the top of the engine and clean the ports from the bottom until air runs freely through the passages.
