When you heat up your work for soldering and reach the temperature at which solder flows you are also creating oxides on the surface of your metal that mar its appearance. Trying to remove water-soluble flux with tap water may replace flux contaminants with ionic contaminants in the tap water. You can use Poly Clens for the flux cleaning from the soldered PCBs.
This depends greatly on what kind of solder and flux you used. The tinning process protects the tip from oxidation reduces wear and enhances heat transfer. The longer the residues are left on the circuit board the higher is the possibility for corrosive damage on solder joints later in service and therefore poor electrical performance of the circuit board.
If you choose to use a brush do it only on the solder. Most Solders use a Rosin type flux. Wipe with a clean dust-free cloth to clean the assembled PCB.
Step 1- When soldering two pieces it is good to use steel wool or scotch brite to remove oxide layers from the surface. That will allow you do do a final clean up to remove any oxides which have formed overnight and ensure a complete soldered. It is a simple plastic cleaning and paintbrush.
Applying some alcohol or acetone onto the brush do not use too much pressure as this may cause the solder point to break. It is made of mild detergent many people call it surfactant alcohol and thinner material mixture. After soldering we using Vapor Degreaser process with RHO-TRON 225 AES-L to clean up the flux.
I usually wipe joints with a water saturated rag after soldering. If there is a significant amount of flux left on the piece or dirty solder consider using a soft brush to help with scrubbing. Brush the solder joint and solder flux on the soldered PCB.
