How To Reflow Solder With A Heat Gun
To do reflow soldering you should have the following tools.
How to reflow solder with a heat gun. This should take no longer than a minute. Therefore I was wondering if I can use a heat gun to carefully heat the board from the back or front until the solder paste melts at which point Id immediately stop and solder on the rest of the components by hand. Often times people heat up the chip without removing it and still seem to successfully reflow.
It uses an infrared lamp to heat the air and melt the solder. Then carefully removereposition the part you want to rework using tweezers by nudging or grabbing the part. If a real heatgun point it at the gpu die and do that for a while and see if its better.
Solder paste in a syringe. Hot air reflow work must be carried out with b. Then fire the heat gun onto the solder paste holding the component with tweezers or another tool that wont catch fire until it becomes shiny.
It would take forever. I choose the heat gun method. There are other solutions you could try like a toaster oven converted for soldering or a pan etc etc but if you need to do multiple a proper hot air soldering station is used.
Once I work my way about 34in away from the chip I keep applying heat for a couple minutes again more time for the larger boards as they contain lots of copper and will sink the heat making it harder for the solder to melt and reflow. All the hairdryer did on those was temporarily close the gap of the solder bumbs of the flip chip designed processors. I know where I have to set the hand dial without looking and I think that is between 7-8 on Hakko 852 station around 420C.
If by heatgun you mean hairdryer you might want to get a stand. I just swirled the heat gun on high over the necessary chips for up to 5 minutes. Youll find a decent write up about a good procedure right here.
