How to use pastry tip without coupler. Take off the coupler and piping tip and squeeze as much of the unused pastry bag contents back into its mixing bowl or storage container. Drop the coupler base narrow end first into the bag and push it down as far as you can. Next drop the piping bag into a tall pilsner or drinking glass and fold the opening of the bag down around the glass.

Push the coupler up and cut the bag at the marked line. Also make sure the line is always below the thread lines on the coupler. Couplers make life less messy.
